Ramblings of a writer

The moon is made of green cheese!
It's not really, but suspend disbelief for a moment.

Many random things pop into my mind. This popped into my mind today.

I once worked in a warehouse, and the cleaner often came in to clean the kitchen while I had my morning tea.During a conversation she told me that the best cleaning too she had, and it's free, was her fingernail. You know those tiny scraps of dirt on the kitchen counter that, no matter how hard you rub or how many times you wipe them, refuse to budge. The fingernail will shift it without fail. Many baby boomers will know this, but it's a handy tip that may be lost over time. 🙂

While I'm on the subject of dirt. Remember when your mum would spit on her hanky and wipe something from your mouth, be it ice cream, tomato sauce, chocolate, or whatever you managed to get all over your face? Well, apparently, your spit contains an enzyme that actually digests food. Your saliva contains an enzyme similar to Amylase called ptyalin. This helps digestion, which is why we should chew our food properly, since chewing is the first and most important stage of digestion.
So you see, there was method in Mum's madness. She may not have known this back then, but basic remedies work.

Here's something you should try.
The next time you eat a sugar-coated doughnut and get sugar on your lips, try not to lick them. Betya can't. It's an autonomic response we do without thinking.
Here's why.
Our lips are sensitive. Sugar dries your lips, and your body automatically licks them to moisten them.
You learn something new every day. 🙂
